A revolutionary leap forward in birth control for women whose families are complete.

What is Essure?

A revolutionary leap forward in birth control for women whose families are complete.

Essure is the dependable solution for permanent birth control that is easy to perform in your office, has a 99.95% effectiveness at one year that has been proven with over a decade of clinical evidence in over 310,000 women. Essure uses the body’s natural healing response to block the fallopian tubes, resulting in permanent birth control. Essure’s simple procedure is performed in seconds, does not require incisions, contains no hormones and can be confirmed for both placement and reliance; meaning women who choose Essure never have to worry about birth control again.

The Essure Procedure is indicated for women who desire permanent contraception. Using a transvaginal hysteroscopic approach, one small, flexible micro-insert is placed in the proximal portion of each fallopian tube. Upon release, the Essure micro-insert expands to conform to the natural unique shape of the fallopian tube, acutely anchoring itself until the micro-insert elicits a healing response that completely occludes the fallopian tubes, typically within three months. After 3 months, the Essure Confirmation test is performed to confirm and document both satisfactory micro-insert location as well as bilateral tubal occlusion. No other permanent birth control procedure can confirm both of these features. The Essure Confirmation Test offers unprecedented peace of mind to both you and your patient.

Clinically Proven. After nine years and ZERO pregnancies among Essure users in our clinical trials, no other permanent birth control method has been shown to be as effective as Essure. Following Essure micro-insert placement, the tissue response has been found to be 100% reliable in patients with correct placement as well as localized to the micro-insert.

Patient tolerance is excellent. With only local anesthesia and minimal dilation required for the procedure, women who choose Essure can quickly return to their daily activities and never have to worry about birth control again – no daily pill, no hormones or hormonal side effects, no quick trips to the pharmacy.

In-Office Procedures

OB GYN Decatur, Norcross, GADr. Stewart and Dr. Pottinger-Pickens have the expertise and experience that you can trust for state-of-the-art in-office procedures. For your convenience, several minimally invasive procedures can be performed on an outpatient basis at Georgia Center for Female Health, including:

Colposcopy

A colposcopy is a follow-up procedure that is used to further investigate the cervix after an abnormal Pap smear result. A colposcope is a special microscope that magnifies the surface of the cervix to check for abnormalities. A colposcopy is relatively simple and painless. After a speculum is gently inserted through the vagina, the colposcope is used to view and take photographs of the cervix. Cell samples of suspicious areas may be taken for examination. Such a biopsy is necessary to correctly diagnose cervical cancer.

Endometrial Ablation

Endometrial ablation is a treatment option for women with extremely heavy menstrual bleeding. In some cases, it can even be an alternative to hysterectomy. Endometrial ablation uses high energy to permanently destroy the lining of the uterus. It should only be used by women who are certain that they do not want to have children.

Please visit Georgia Center for Female Health's Patient Education Library to learn more about endometrial ablation.
